Life is Rigged in Your Favour

Overwhelmed by the sheer generosity of God’s grace, Paul the apostle asks rhetorically in Romans 8:31, “what then shall we say to these things?”

This question flows from surveying the amazing grace of God at work since before you were born – before creation even – to bring you into the glory of God. Verse 1 of the same chapter starts with that unquestionable tone of finality – There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. They are altogether exempted from it; set completely outside its reach and torment.

To read Romans 8 and not come away brimming with the assurance of God’s love is to suffer grand larceny. For what can boost the confidence of a man more potently than that glorious poser to which there is no riposte – if God be for us, who can be against us?

Life is rigged in the favour of the child of God. God himself arranged it so that if we follow his leading, every coin that life flips, lands in our favour. Is that not what it means that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose?

Life is rigged in the favour of the child of God. God himself arranged it so that if we follow his leading, every coin that life flips, lands in our favour.

Our confidence and certainty rests on the fact that God already cleared our path in this world before the foundation of the world itself was laid. All that is left to do is to walk in the path. As things stand…

We know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.  For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers.  And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity]. – Romans 8:28-30

Do you know it – with great confidence – as it says, that the path to glory has already been laid for you? Knowing these things, our question then will no longer be, “what then shall we say to these things”, but “what then must we do to enter into these things?” We find the answer in the passage, this is for those who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
