“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of Light.” – Matthew 6:22 (NKJV)

Our eyes are the entrance to our hearts and minds. The eye is a doorway to our thoughts and our soul. What we fix our eyes on or gaze at has a way of affecting us positively or negatively. We must only view things that will attract light to us so that we do not walk in darkness.

The eye is a doorway to our thoughts and our soul. What we fix our eyes on or gaze at has a way of affecting us positively or negatively.

Pornography or Porn, as it is fondly called, is the representation of sexual behavior in books, pictures, statues, motion pictures (films) and other media that is intended to cause sexual excitement. It can also be seen as sexually explicit videos, photographs, writings or the likes whose purpose is to elicit sexual arousal. Pornography has no advantage because naturally, God has put sexual instincts in man. Just as you can’t teach a baby to suck breast from the mother – so also you can’t teach a man or woman to have sex when it’s time.

Pornography has no advantage because naturally, God has put sexual instincts in man. Just as you can’t teach a baby to suck breast from the mother – so also you can’t teach a man or woman to have sex when it’s time.

As Christians, pornography should be avoided by all ages and marital status. That is to say being married or being above 18 years is not a reason to engage in pornography. Pornography is a form of darkness and if we fix out gaze on it, it introduces darkness into our lives and marks us for destruction. So here’s why you should avoid it:

  • We must avoid pornography because it is a sin. In 2 Timothy 2:22 the Bible says, “flee also youthful lusts; but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart”. Pornography causes one to lust after people. Sometimes even married men or women imagine the person they had watched or read about in a pornographic book to be their partners in bed. We must run away from porn because it is filthy, immoral, dark, impure, unholy; it brings dirt to the mind and soul. We know as Christians that anything that is sinful is capable of taking us to hell.
  • Pornography introduces one to masturbation. In the world today we know that several sex toys and gadgets have been made to aid sexual perversions. Pornography is the vehicle that leads many into these forms of immorality and ungodly lifestyles.
  • Porn can equally lead one to fornicate or commit adultery.
  • We must avoid pornography because it is addictive. God has made adequate provision for our dominion over sin and the likes. We must not be brought under the control of anything. We should not let anything enslave us. The Bible speaking in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 says:

“Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power. Food [is intended] for the stomach and the stomach for food, but God will finally end [the functions of] both and bring them to nothing. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but [is intended] for the Lord, and the Lord [is intended] for the body [to save, sanctify, and raise it again]. And God both raised the Lord to life and will also raise us up by His power. Do you not see and know that your bodies are members (bodily parts) of Christ (the Messiah)? Am I therefore to take the parts of Christ and make [them] parts of a prostitute? Never! Never! Or do you not know and realize that when a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? The two, it is written, shall become one flesh. But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. Shun immorality and all sexual looseness [flee from impurity in thought, word, or deed]. Any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body” (AMP).

Please note that your body is not for fornication but for the Lord. Why do you want to arouse yourself sexually and you think it will not defile your soul? Why join your bodies with the harlot or so called porn stars? This is because lusting after them and imagining that you are having sex with them in your heart equals fornicating or committing adultery with them. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 5:28: “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (NIV).

Remember; never allow anything to control you. Only let the Holy Spirit be in control and lead you. Let your body, eyes, heart etcetera glorify God because he owns you.

Remember, never allow anything to control you. Only let the Holy Spirit be in control and lead you.

In conclusion, you should avoid pornography because it is actually an abuse of God’s original plan of creating sex and desire in marriage. One’s desire should be to his/ her husband/wife not films, books or pictures or anyone else. Porn degrades what God originally created honourable. Job 31:1 says “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl” (NIV). You too can trust God to help you. In your time of war, do not explore the internet when you’re alone. Change your phone to one that does not give you access to the net or any source of pornography. Exit from any pop-up site that is explicit or filter contents of explicit videos. Talk to an elder in faith if you need help. The Bible says in Matthew 5:29 “If, your right eye serves as a trap to ensnare you or is an occasion for you to stumble and sin, pluck it out and throw it away. It is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be cast into hell (Gehenna)” (AMP). If you have been trapped in the web or prison of pornography, repent and turn to Christ today. He will give you a new heart and put His Spirit within you while you will have to flee every appearance of evil and youthful lust and trust the Holy Spirit to engage your heart with whatever things are pure, lovely or of good report. Study and obey the word of God in order to remain sanctified. Focus on Christ who is the Light of the world and you will never walk in darkness. May the Lord help us!
