“Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you” – Psalm 25:4-5 (NLT)

There is a path mapped out for each of us to follow, it is called the right path, this is the path that leads to greatness. Not the type of greatness that the world gives, but the kind of greatness that comes only from God. We see an example of a man who God gave this type of greatness in the life of King David concerning whom God said in Psalm 89:20-29 “I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. Also, I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy will I keep for him forevermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. His seed also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven”
God has a glorious plan for every believer, a plan that offers you and me a future filled with hope. But if this glorious plan for our lives is to come to pass, we must first commit ourselves to knowing and following the right path as revealed to us by God on a daily basis. Speaking in Jeremiah 29:11, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says “For I know full well the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for your misfortune, plans that will offer you a future filled with hope”. However, you and I have a right to our free will, we have the option of either accepting or rejecting God’s plan for our lives.

Since God’s thoughts are not the same as our thoughts and His ways are not our ways, there could be the tendency to reject His plan for our lives just because it doesn’t look like what we expect or desire, but if we want to experience true greatness, then embracing God’s plan for our lives becomes a non-negotiable requirement. The prayer of the psalmist in our anchor text above must become our sincere heart cry: show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me. In addition to making this prayer our heartfelt cry, we must also be willing to fully submit ourselves to God’s leading. We must not only confess Christ as our savior, but we must also acknowledge and accept Him as our Lord.

Jesus speaking in Mathew 4:19 said, “…. Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men”. Hence, it is in following Jesus that we are made, and we must follow Him on His terms not on our terms if we genuinely desire to be made by Him. We must remember that Jesus is not just the Truth but He is also the Way, and what this means is that when we come to Him, there is a way that we must walk in if we are to be made by Him, and this way is the way of Life.
When God leads you, He clears obstacles from your way. When He led Israel out of Egypt, He made a way in the wilderness and a highway in the red sea. Faithfully following the right path as revealed to us by God, guarantees divine presence, and divine presence makes us great.
Finally, it’s good to remember that allowing God to lead us on the right path is for our good. It ensures that we travel our journey on the earth on eagles’ wings, it makes us a sign and a wonder to our world. Concerning Jotham, in 2 Chronicles 27:6 as rendered by God’s Word Translation, the bible says “Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to live as the Lord his God wanted”. Be determined to remain on the path that God reveals to you via His word and His Spirit, and your greatness will be inevitable.
Remain blessed.
