Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses – 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT)

The era of error is upon us, a season where darkness seeks to cover the earth and gross darkness the peoples. The age-long battle between the kingdom of light and that of darkness is approaching its climax, and we see the devil and his agents working overtime to exchange the truth of God for a lie. We did not choose this battle, it chose us – the day we enlisted into the Lord’s army by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Jude exhorts us in the third verse of his single chapter book in the bible to earnestly contend for the faith or sum of Christian belief that was once for all handed down to us.

The era of error is upon us, a season where darkness seeks to cover the earth and gross darkness the peoples.

Our anchor scripture above charges us to fight the good fight for the true faith, and to hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called us. Yes, there is a need to fight and contend for the true faith because the true Christian faith is under a massive and relentless attack from the hordes of hell in these last days. The good news, however, is that we are fighting from a place of victory. Christ has already won the victory on our behalf and our role in this fight is primarily to enforce this victory. In doing this we have an assurance of God’s backing and His presence with us.

We have an assurance of God’s presence with us as we engage in this good fight of faith. God is more involved in our daily lives than we often care to acknowledge or admit. Psalm 37:23 says ‘The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives”. Since God directs the steps of the Godly and delights in every detail of our lives, we can be confident about God’s backing and involvement as we fight the good fight for the true faith. This was also the case with the heroes of our faith who have gone before us. We can name them: Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3), Moses ((Exodus 14:1-4), Joshua (Joshua 5:13-15), Samuel (1 Samuel 3:19-21), David (2 Samuel 5:22-25), the Apostle Paul (Acts 22:17-21) and so on. God led each of them as they engaged in the good fight of faith. The same God who led each of these heroes of the faith is ready to lead you and me, only if we would allow Him. The one who leads a fight has a major impact on the outcome of the fight. When God leads the fight, our victory is inevitable.

Finally, it must be said that while God wants to lead us in the good fight of faith, we must allow Him. Although He wants to be involved and help us as we engage in this fight, we must make room for Him. But more importantly, God wants to lead us as we engage in this fight of faith daily and we must be willing to submit to His authority because it is only then that our victory is guaranteed.
