For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.’ Acts 13:47 (New Heart English Bible)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light – Genesis 1:1-3; 2Corinthians 4:6

What is this light? Jesus said, ‘I am the Light of the word: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of light’ John 8:12. Jesus is the Light (John 1:5). Light is the radiation of the nature of God and Christ, and darkness however, is everything outside God! Light has always been the solution to the problem of darkness. This is first and foremost true in the spiritual realm and it is true in the physical realm as well.

Light has always been the solution to the problem of darkness. This is first and foremost true in the spiritual realm and it is true in the physical realm as well.

Before the coming of Christ, the world was in the darkness of sin and Satan (John 8:12; Ephesians 5:8) and God sent His Son, the Light of the world in the Person of Jesus Christ to redeem mankind from darkness and bring them into His marvelous Light (John 1:1-7; 1John 1:5; John 8:12).

The Lord Jesus fulfilled this mandate in the three and half years of His Ministry and triumphed over the prince of darkness when He died on the cross and rose again. Hallelujah!

But we see that the nations are still in darkness of sin. They do not know of the salvation and redemption that has come to the world. And Jesus commands us His disciples saying, ‘I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth’ (Isaiah 42:6; Luke 2:32).

This victory and this Light must reach the nations until the ends of the earth: The Light of life must continue to shine in all generations and bring salvation to all people – to all the nations and to the farthest part of the earth until the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of God as water cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14; Isaiah 11:9).

May God grant us wisdom, understanding and grace to rise up to bring Light indeed unto the nations and accomplish the task of bringing salvation to the farthest parts of the earth in our own generation. Amen!
