Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone – 1Thessalonians 5:14

Laziness is such a repulsive attitude that even the Bible warns against it. It is important to note that having faith in God, or being spiritual does not in any way encourage us to be lazy. God is faithful in playing His role concerning our well-being; we, therefore, must be ready to play ours as well. In the name of ‘faith,’ some Believers have become lazy, not wanting to work with their hands or become responsible. Paul’s instruction on this is clear; “… If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat” – 2Thessalonians 3:10.
Hundreds of years before the Apostle Paul penned down this instruction, the wisest King of Israel also queried: “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and be wise! But you lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? I want you to learn this lesson: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber” – Proverbs 6:6,9-11NLT. Laziness in our work, homes, studies, kingdom service, and in whatever form is not acceptable before God. We must set the pace for the world with respect to the ‘dignity of labour’.
The cost of laziness is far more than the cost of hard work; hard work pays. Are you lazy in prayer, fasting, and your service to the Kingdom? Are you lazy in the discharge of your professional duties? Are you lazy in the way you manage your business or study? God’s Word says, “Save yourself like a deer escaping from a hunter, like a bed fleeing from a net – Proverbs 6:5NLT. You might soon become a victim of the wicked one, except you arise in prayer. May God strengthen your knees not to slumber in prayer, and general life’s endeavours in Jesus’ Name!
PRAYER: Father, I thank You for Your Word to me today. I ask that You’ll deliver me from every form of laziness in Jesus’ Name!
