In the first part of this article, we looked at preaching the good news and healing the brokenhearted as two key purposes of the anointing. In this edition of the article, we will be looking at more purposes of the anointing as clearly outlined in Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound” – AMP
To Proclaim Liberty for the Captives
The third purpose of the anointing as seen from the above Scripture is to proclaim liberty to the captives. Satan’s job is to hold men captive under his dominion and rulership. He does this by getting men enslaved to sin and sinful habits – pornography, masturbation, sexual sins, drug addiction, stealing, etc. We are anointed to destroy the works of the devil, as Christ did (1John 3:8). We are God’s law enforcement agents who are meant to enforce the will of God on earth, of which liberty from Satan’s dominion is topmost.
The price has been paid, but many still ignorantly serve the devil. We enforce this glorious freedom bought by Christ for the souls of men by prayer and intercession, and by preaching and teaching the Word of God. Worthy of note is the fact that the moment Christ died and resurrected, the legal hold of Satan on man was broken, and this, we must proclaim on the rooftop. “The slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant cancelled and nailed to Christ’s Cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets” – Colossians 2:14-15. May we not fail in this mandate of the anointing in Jesus’ Name!

To Set Spiritual Prisoners Free
Today, many a man is in the prison of one ideology or the other. Some are captives to themselves, imprisoned to the ‘self’ life. Other forms of spiritual prison experience are being blind to the purpose of God and working contrary to His will for one’s life. A prisoner is limited in what he can do, and where he can go. It is freedom from this Satan-imposed and self-imposed prison that the anointing upon your life is meant to address.

We have been empowered to open the prison door and the eyes of those that are blind. When we remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit, it becomes very easy to identify these spiritual prisoners around us. We can identify them by their way of life because “…by their fruit, you shall know them” – Matthew 7:20. Knowing that this is a life-saving mission, we must approach it first, in the place of prayer. This is because the taskmaster (the devil) will not fold his arms when he sees his prisoner about to be let loose, we must prepare for a fight-back. The good news, therefore, is that we’re not fighting for victory but from a place of victory because whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world, even our faith (1John 5:4).
