The Prince of Peace

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus”. – Philippians 4:6-7 (TLB)

The Cambridge dictionary has several definitions for the word ‘peace’, one of which is ‘the state of not being interrupted or annoyed by worry, problems, noise, or unwanted actions’. This definition paints a picture of what peace means to a vast majority of people; the absence of conflict, disturbance or anything that causes anxiety, fear and general discomfort. However, the kind of peace that God gives, as revealed in our text above, is the kind that is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. This is the type of peace that reassures our hearts and stands guard over our hearts even when we go through times of crisis or seasons of storm.

The Cambridge dictionary has several definitions for the word ‘peace’, one of which is ‘the state of not being interrupted or annoyed by worry, problems, noise, or unwanted actions’.

Jesus Christ who is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) demonstrated this God kind of peace when the boat He and His disciples were sailing in was caught in a storm as recorded in Mathew 8:23-27, which says, ‘Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.’ Anyone can sleep when the sky is blue and the sea is calm, but to sleep amid a storm at sea is an entirely different ball game. That is exactly what the peace of God that surpasses human understanding does for us, it inoculates us against everything that can create panic and fear in others.

We are in the season when this peace that only God gives is needed more than ever before. Money is failing; in many nations of the world, we hear of wars and rumors of wars daily. The capacity of man to be wicked to his fellow man and to practice lawlessness has reached unprecedented proportions. Consequently, many have either lost the will to live or are battling with mental health issues. But all hope is not lost for Jesus Christ is still the Prince of Peace, and the peace that He gives is not like anything we can find anywhere or in anything that this world has to offer. Let’s allow the Prince of Peace Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ, to have the final say on this matter. Speaking in John 14:27 He said, “Peace I leave with you; my [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.” [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]

If you wish to accept this generous offer from the Prince of Peace, kindly pray this simple prayer aloud: “Father, I repent of my sins and surrender my life to you; wash me clean. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my victory, I believe that in my heart and make confession with my mouth, that Jesus is my Savior and Lord. I receive eternal life, in Jesus name, Amen.”
