The Whole Armour of God (3)

In continuation of the article on the Whole Armour of God, we shall proceed to look at other spiritual armour provided by God for the believers’ victory in spiritual warfare.

The Armour of the Good News of Peace: On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. – Ephesians 6:15, ERV

In warfare, one very important piece of armour is the soldier’s shoe. In the military, soldiers usually wear boots which are made from very hard leather materials fit for any war or jungle experience. They cannot enter the battle barefooted or with casual footwear lest they are not able to stand the rigours of the war terrain.

Likewise, in the spirit realm, the Good News which is also the Gospel of Peace is one of the armour which provides both stability and readiness to combat the enemy. There is a peace that comes from the gospel which becomes an assurance of victory in the face of battle. God wants us to confront the enemy with the peace of mind that the gospel gives. A soldier who approaches the battle agitated or disconcerted may end up losing out. Such agitation may cause a loss of interest and in turn, lead to the loss of the battle.

There is a peace that comes from the gospel which becomes an assurance of victory in the face of battle

If we must stay victorious over our foe, the peace of God that surpasses all understanding must keep our minds in place (Philippians 4:6). This peace comes from accepting and preaching the Good News; and it includes peace with God, peace with men and peace within us. The implication of the foregoing is that, in order to stay victorious in the battle, we must have the readiness to maintain peace with God and men at all times and also be ready to reconcile men back to God.

The Shield of Faith: In every battle, you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. – Ephesians 5:16, NLT

Faith, like a shield, is a defensive weapon in our battle against the enemy. No battle is too small to engage the armour of faith, so the Apostle Paul said, ‘In every battle you will need faith…’ The adversary shoots his fiery arrows at the children of God times without number. It is for this reason that we are charged by the word of God to hold the shield of faith.

The enemy shoots these darts at us by trying to get us to doubt God’s word and His love for us. Only with the shield of faith, can we repel these attacks. How can this shield of faith be in place? The answer is found in Romans 10:17: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”. To develop faith, it is needful to become an ardent student of the word. All the men and women who walked the earth and vanquished the enemy had something in common – FAITH. Owing to its importance in walking on this side of eternity, the author of Hebrews revealed that, “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Friend, stop believing the lies of the devil from today, and build your faith on the infallible and inerrant word of God, and then your victory over the enemy will be sure.

Friend, stop believing the lies of the devil from today, and build your faith on the infallible and inerrant word of God, and then your victory over the enemy will be sure. Faith in the faithfulness of God is vital for unending victory in life’s battles. May you take the shield of faith with which you will be able to put off all the fiery missiles of the enemy in Jesus’ Name.

The Helmet of Salvation: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. – Ephesians 6:17

A helmet is worn by a soldier on the head to protect one of the most vital organs of the body during war. The head being the seat of the mind plays a major role in coordinating every other part of the body. In like manner, salvation is the redemption or deliverance of an individual from the power of sin and Satan. It is this armour which determines the proper functioning of the others.

A man who is not yet saved is no match for the devil. The seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:13-16 dared the devil without being saved. At the end of the confrontation, they ended up as the victims and vanquished. The helmet of salvation is therefore the symbol of our deliverance from sin and its attendant consequences. This armour is a testimonial which renders the guilt and fear of condemnation (after we’ve accepted Christ) null and void.

The helmet of salvation is the mark that we now belong to God and Satan’s verdict about us no longer counts. And this salvation, we are told, is found only in Christ Jesus. The Bible clearly affirms this fact in Acts 4:11-12: “This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved”.

The helmet of salvation is the mark that we now belong to God and Satan’s verdict about us no longer counts.

Today, in case you are yet to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, please do, so that you don’t become Satan’s victim in this ongoing war.

To be continued…
